Make Waves at Rock the Dock with the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center
Burlington, Vermont (PRWEB) June 24, 2014 -- Make waves with the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center on Thursday, July 3rd at the 6th annual Rock the Dock Benefit. Proceeds from the benefit will support the McConnell Scholarship Fund by removing financial barriers to Lake Champlain in order to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to experience the Lake from a sailboat, kayak, or stand up paddleboard.
A community-based, non-profit organization, the Community Sailing Center is hoping to raise $25,000 for the McConnell Scholarship Fund that provides lake access to over 5,000 people each year, regardless of age, ability or income.
“Rock the Dock is an excellent example of the type of community camaraderie that allows the Sailing Center to provide scholarships for underserved populations and create equal opportunities for everyone and anyone to enjoy Lake Champlain. We are fortunate to have the help of our friends, sponsors and trustees, along with the hard work of our staff whose support empowers us to make a difference in the Burlington community,” says Mark Naud, Executive Director of the Lake Champlain Community Sailing Center.
Every $300 raised from Rock the Dock provides either a week-long camp session for one child from a low-income family, the opportunity for six youths to grow through the challenge of sailing and effective communication with the Leader Ship Program, or a day of hands-on, scientific learning about Lake Champlain for 12 students through the Floating Classrooms Program.
A first-class, front row seat to Burlington’s legendary fireworks, Rock the Dock will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 3rd, and is sponsored by Dealer.com, People’s United Bank, Northfield Savings Bank, Hickock & Boardman Insurance Group, The Edge, Farrell Distributing, and Geri Reilly Real Estate. The annual celebration wouldn’t be complete without live music from DJ Cre8, food from Bluebird Barbeque, La Villa Bistro, Guild Tavern, and Pizzeria Veritas, and drinks from Zero Gravity, Citizen Cider, and Auggie’s signature Hurricanes.
