GEEK Eyewear® Partners With Unite For Sight And Provides Life-Changing Eyeglasses Donation in Honduras
(PRWEB) June 26, 2014 -- GEEK Eyewear® has partnered with Unite for Sight to help provide eye care in underserved communities. “I’m In, Give A Pair” GEEK Eyewear®’s glasses donation campaign is bringing hundreds of pairs of reading glasses to the ZOE Eye Clinic in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
MaryAnne Motter Cullen, a mother of 9 children and soon to be a grandmother of 4, who lives in Lancaster, PA went to Honduras in the beginning of June on her first trip as a Global Health Fellow through Unite for Sight. MaryAnne brought 200 reading glasses from GEEK Eyewear® to the ZOE Eye Clinic in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. This clinic is run by Dr. Edwin Flores. Volunteers like MaryAnne are assisting with preschool vision screenings in public schools. In addition, they are observing cataract surgeries and documenting the patients for accounting purposes.
MaryAnne shared insights and experiences from her recent trip: "People were very appreciative. It was wonderful to see their faces light up when they put on their glasses and realized they would finally be able to read the bible or achieve a greater sense of independence. Many of them blessed us for our work and service and they were very grateful. People were very excited to receive the glasses, and they waited hours to get them."
“Having a pair of glasses can have a huge impact on someone’s life, which is why we’re so excited GEEK Eyewear® has the ongoing opportunity to donate glasses as part of its ‘I’m in, give a pair’ campaign,” says the founder of GEEK Eyewear® Alena Lehrer. “Being able to see the world with clear 20/20 vision, read, or protect sensitive eyes from the sunlight can dramatically affect someone’s physical and mental well-being and can open the doors to new opportunities.”
Working together with Unite for Sight is the latest effort and a part of GEEK Eyewear®’s ongoing campaign, “I’m In, Give A Pair." The company donates one pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses sold at http://www.GeekEyewear.com. Previous contributions for “I’m in, give a pair” include eyeglasses for children at the Venice Family Clinic in California and sunglasses for people living with albinism in Tanzania.
GEEK Eyewear®’s philanthropic efforts extend beyond the realm of eyewear. The company sponsored The Adventure Project, the Venice Family Clinic’s Annual Children’s Holiday Movie Event to support comprehensive medical, dental, vision and mental health services for low-income and uninsured children, and many more projects and events, detailed on its website.
“At GEEK Eyewear® we’re always looking for ways to give back,” Alena Lehrer continues. “We gladly accept our customers’ suggestions for nonprofits with which we can partner.” For more information, to browse Geek Eyewear’s selection of stylish eyeglasses and sunglasses, or to offer your nonprofit suggestion, visit http://www.GeekEyewear.com.
