Ecard Company Reveals “Super Ben Franklin” 4th July Retro 8-Bit Animation
Teddington, UK (PRWEB) June 30, 2014 -- Katie’s Cards, an art and animation studio specialising in creating ecards for various occasions, has developed a new design for the 4th July celebration.
Super Ben Franklin (and the Road to Independence) is a video-game style animation which borrows from the 8-Bit world of gaming whilst drawing on patriotic elements of the 4th July holiday.
Benjamin Franklin, inventor and one of the many signatories of the Declaration of Independence, is the main character or ‘sprite’ featured in this design. The style pays homage to platform gaming from the 80s and is heavily inspired by a certain Italian plumber and his mushroom-garnering exploits.
The balance of old and not-so old has been considered in every element of this ecard design, including sound. While familiar synthesized electronic music is emulated for authentic vintage video game feel, the score of ‘America, The Beautiful’ is a salute to the patriotic.
Speaking of how this idea came to be, Katie Davies, owner of Katie’s Cards comments, “We wanted to offer something completely different from our other 4th July ecards. A few of our team are big fans of retro video games, so when the suggestion was made to create an Independence Day-themed game simulation, I thought ‘what a great idea!’ and knew we had to do it. ”
Although Katie’s Cards have created several simple platform games for their cards in the past (most notably The Cake Munchers game which was featured on GameNet) this ecard is different. Instead of controlling the ‘sprite’, recipients can watch a perfect level of the made-up Super Ben Franklin video game being played.
Katie’s Cards is based in the quaint English village of Hampton Wick in Teddington but serves a worldwide community of members and a strong American following. This card, in particular, was created when one of the Katie Cards members asked for a new July 4th Card to be added to the collection. Katie Davies explains: “We got some feedback from one our members asking for something a bit different to the other cards available – so we took their comments on board and made the Super Ben Franklin ecard.” She adds: “With one foot in 18th Century and another placed firmly in the 1980s, we’re hoping people will enjoy our unconventional take on this important moment in US history.”
July 4th is a federal holiday in the USA and falls on a Friday this year.
