Dr. Tariq Drabu was speaking about an article recently published on a dentistry website. The full article was published on 17 June 2014 and can be read here.
Dr. Tariq Drabu said, “A large number of the population don’t have their natural teeth, which forces them to wear dentures. What many people don’t realize is that dentures can take some getting used to, they can impair speech, and make eating exceptionally difficult. Patients who wear dentures have specific instructions on what they can and cannot eat. The University of Manchester will be conducting a study this year to see how dentures impact a patient’s quality of life. There are forty-four participants who will take part in the study over a six-month period. Some will be given implants to retain their dentures, while the remainder will receive mini dentures.”
Dr. Tariq Drabu went on to say, “Over the six-month period the researchers will collect valuable information on each patient in terms of their pain levels and ability to eat. Tooth loss affects a large number of our older community, and I really believe that this study is long overdue.”
Dr. Tariq Drabu closed in saying, “Dental implants are a proven solution in many selected cases. Dental implants require a titanium rod which is screwed into the jaw bone to hold a false tooth in place. The advantage is that they don’t impair a patient’s speech and once settled, they can enjoy a wide variety of food.”
