Women's Health and Surgery Center Stafford VA Achieves COEMIG Desingation
Stafford, VA (PRWEB) June 25, 2014 -- Stafford Hospital along with some of the physicians at Women’s Health and Surgery Center has been designated as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG). The COEMIG program is an AAGL initiative focusing on improving the safety and quality of gynecology patient care and lowering overall costs associated with successful treatment.
Women’s Health and Surgery Center is the only practice in Mary Washington Healthcare to be certified in the region. Stafford Hospital is one of only 5 recognized throughout Virginia.
One of the key aspects of the COEMIG process is the BOLD database.
“We utilize the BOLD database to track our patient outcomes,” Dr. Kurian Thott said. “Monitoring patients preoperatively, as well as post operatively ensures that we are providing quality care.”
To earn the COEMIG designation, Women’s Health and Surgery Center and Stafford Hospital committed to deliver safe and evidence-based minimally invasive gynecologic surgical care. The designation followed a rigorous site evaluation process, conducted by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, through the Surgical Review Corporation. The certification process looked at number of cases and outcomes and types of complex procedures being performed.
“From a patient’s perspective having surgery done at a center that handles large volume of complex cases means they will be managed with more expertise than average volume surgeons,” added Dr. Thott.
Women’s Health and Surgery Center performs about 200 Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomies per year, which alone puts them in the top 1% in the country, plus other complex cases, including Laparoscopic Myomectomy, Laparoscopic Urologic procedures and management of large pelvic masses.
“When patients see the COEMIG seal they know they are getting the highest quality of gynecological care,” Thott said. “We are proud to be the only practice in the region with such a prestigious designation.”
