It's absolutely fantastic to be recognized as the cornerstone of GBPHB's progressive, visionary approach to condition management. We are very fortunate to work with a partner like GBPHB, who is willing to test approaches and drive innovation.

(PRWEB) June 25, 2014

Representatives of the General Board of Pension and Health Benefits of The United Methodist Church (GBPHB) will demonstrate how Evive Health's innovative engagement methods move GBPHB’s 17,000 health plan members to better health by increasing preventive screenings and by closing the gaps in care for those with chronic conditions.

Kelly Wittich, GBPHB health plan manager, is invited by the NBGH to speak about her team’s success in replacing traditional disease management with Evive's highly personalized, tailored communications in conjunction with lifestyle coaching provided by WebMD. Shelly Brooks-Sanford, GBPHB’s wellness programs and outreach manager, will also attend and discuss this innovative approach to managing chronic conditions.

“We think very highly of the NBGH, so we're excited for the opportunity to discuss our unique approach to condition management,” says Wittich. “With traditional disease management, the results were sometimes ambiguous, and it wasn't always clear if, and how, our members were benefiting. Pairing WebMD's lifestyle coaching with Evive Health's personalized communications has been a very effective solution — one that we hope will motivate others to try a new approach.”

Since partnering with Evive Health in 2012, GBPHB members' adherence to evidence-based standards of care for chronic conditions has seen a relative increase of 18.8 percent. More people with chronic conditions are receiving recommended tests at appropriate intervals, which should help physicians to slow down disease progression, reduce complications and improve patients' quality of life.

“Evive's reminders are very clear,” says Wittich. “They say: 'This is recommended for management of diabetes; or this is the cost and here's where to go — now go schedule it.' I think it puts a lot more of the responsibility on the participant, and gives them a clear, actionable next step.

“We've seen an improvement in adherence, and we've seen it in a way that we feel confident about the calculations. With traditional disease management — and we don't want to discount the role it plays in this industry — the numbers have always been a little less transparent than we'd like. When Evive tells us there is an improvement in adherence to these recommended tests for individuals with chronic conditions, we are satisfied they're being measured in the way we would measure them.”

“It's absolutely fantastic to be recognized as the cornerstone of GBPHB's progressive, visionary approach to condition management,” says Peter Saravis, Evive Health CEO. “We are very fortunate to work with a partner like GBPHB, who is willing to test approaches and drive innovation.”

The NBGH is a non-profit organization devoted to representing large employers' perspectives on national health policy issues and providing practical solutions to its members' healthcare problems.
