Author & Motivational Speaker Andrew Louis Botieri Leads “Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma Walk-a-thon” in Plymouth, MA on June 22
Boston, MA (PRWEB) June 25, 2014 -- Andrew Louis Botieri, whose astonishing recovery from scleroderma is captured in his life-changing autobiography “A Celebration of Life: A Story of Hope, a Miracle, and the Power of Attitude”, led the Walk, Talk and Rock Walk-a-thon to Cure Scleroderma on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Nelson Park in Plymouth, MA.
Now on its 6th year, the annual event is coordinated by the Scleroderma Foundation’s New England Chapter and held every June to mark National Scleroderma Awareness Month.
This year, over 300 participants walked a course of two miles to help raise funds that will go towards providing essential support resources and educational forums for patients and families affected by scleroderma: a rare, chronic and often progressive autoimmune disease for which there no known cause or cure, and which rarely affects men. Approximately 300,000 people in the US are diagnosed with scleroderma each year-- which is about the same number diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Botieri, who is a spokesperson for the National Scleroderma Foundation’s New England Chapter, is also an in-demand motivational speaker who helps audiences across the country overcome adversity. Over the past few years, he has been the subject of several national and local interviews and articles, including a feature story by Plymouth’s WickedLocal.com.
“Ralph Waldo Emerson said that the purpose of life is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, and to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well,” commented Botieri, “Well, I didn’t gracefully seek my purpose in life -- I had my purpose thrust on me with all of the subtlety of getting whacked over the head with a two-by-four!”
“However, despite the roller coaster that took me to the brink of death -- even my own doctors said that my condition was hopeless -- I wouldn’t change a thing. We’re all part of a divine plan, and there is a purpose to everything. My purpose at this time is to spread awareness of scleroderma, to raise funds for essential scleroderma research and education, and to share my message of inspiration, healing and hope.”
Botieri’s acclaimed book, which features a new foreword to mark National Scleroderma Awareness Month, is available at http://www.amazon.com/Celebration-Life-Story-Miracle-Attitude-ebook/dp/B00BPH3M7A.
