The area rug should be large enough to place the feet of the furniture on the outer perimeters of the rug. This creates an illusion for the homeowner that the rug extends indefinitely.
Area rugs are not meant to sit only under coffee tables or be a floor mat for when getting out of bed. Using a rug that is too small with make the room will feel smaller instead of larger and the area rug will not define the space.
Bathroom:
An area rug is essential in a bathroom to insulate the space and keep sound from echoing against the tile flooring. Coordinate the area rug with the shower curtain and décor within the bathroom to bring the room together.
Kitchen:

Child Bedroom:
