Rubio’s Ranked 14th in Fast Casual’s Top 100 Movers & Shakers List
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) June 25, 2014 -- Rubio’s, the brand known for popularizing the fish taco and its coastal cuisine, has been awarded the 14th spot on FastCasual.com’s annual Top 100 Movers & Shakers list. This is the third year the San Diego-headquartered brand has been included on the list. The Top 100 Movers & Shakers list, which includes the fast casual industry’s most significant brands, people and trends was released in late May in conjunction with the National Restaurant Association tradeshow.
This year, FastCasual.com received more than 900 nominations for the Top 100 Movers & Shakers list. Judges determined the top 50 restaurants based on industry nominations and the significance of the nominees to the fast casual segment. Judging criteria included innovation, growth, social responsibility and overall contribution. In addition to being included, Rubio’s also improved its ranking, jumping 27 spots from 2013. Judges noted the brand’s continued oceans conservation efforts, coastally inspired dishes, ‘To the Ocean’ advertising campaign and annual CoastFest celebration as reasons for the jump. Other Top 100 Movers & Shakers award categories honored the top five industry marketing campaigns, top 10 menu trends, top 10 innovative technologies and top 25 industry leaders.
“We’re thrilled to be named to FastCasual.com’s Top 100 Movers & Shakers list for the third year in a row and to be named among the top 15 fast casual restaurants in the nation,” said Marc Simon, CEO and president of Rubio’s. “As a brand that prides itself on creating craveable cuisine and advocating for ocean health, moving up 27 positions is really meaningful and reinforces our commitment to continuing progressive thought leadership in the fast casual industry.”
Founded in 1983, in the San Diego neighborhood of Mission Bay, Rubio’s is credited with popularizing the fish taco in the U.S. Since then, Rubio’s has sold more than 170 million fish tacos. Passionate about ocean health and having counted the ocean as a source of inspiration for more than 30 years, Rubio’s works to be a friend to the ocean year round with a majority of its seafood being sourced from sustainable fisheries, recycling plastic and glass bottles in restaurants whenever possible, using eco-friendly plates and to-go containers and supporting ocean-focused causes.
