Moosejaw and the American Hiking Society are teaming up to inspire families to get outside this summer with their “Families on Foot” Photo Challenge.
The Photo Challenge kick-off was on the First Day of Summer, June 21st and will continue for the next ten weeks, until August 31st. Each week, the American Hiking Society will share a new hiking related photo challenge through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. The winners of each week’s Photo Challenge will get a whole slew of hiking packs and gear from Moosejaw.
American Hiking Society’s Families on Foot Initiative inspires families to lead an active healthy lifestyle and hike and encourages communities to create new opportunities for families to get outside. American Hiking works to expand urban and suburban hiking opportunities so young people can develop a deeper connection with the land and become advocates for the nation’s parks, forests, and other public lands.
“According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, kids watch on average 3 hours of TV a day. And that’s only TV – add in hand-held devices and computers and they’re spending between 5 and 7 hours of their day glued to some sort of a screen,” explains American Hiking Society President, Gregory Miller. “Hiking is an easy way to get kids outdoors and away from the TV.”
To participate in the Families on Foot Photo Challenge, follow American Hiking Society on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram to watch for each week’s challenge. Then grab your family and get outside.
