Around the United States, fans are currently getting behind their national team. The World Cup is the biggest soccer event held around the world and there has never been a better time to be a fan of the sport in this country. Over the past several years, there have been more international friendly games held here with some of the best teams in the world, as well as numerous tournaments and events that allow fans of the sport to see the greatest players in the sport. One way fans will be able to do this after the World Cup in Brazil is complete is with the 2014 Guinness International Champions Cup.
There are eight international club teams that will compete at the event this year including three teams from the English Premier League (Liverpool FC, Manchester United and Manchester City), three from Serie A in Italy (AC Milan, Roma and Internazionale), Olympiacos from Superleague Greece and Real Madrid from La Liga. The latter is the most successful team in the short history of this event, which used to be called the World Football Challenge. A year ago, Real Madrid picked up the win against Chelsea in the finals to win the championship.
The eight teams will be separated into two groups, with each team facing off against the other teams in their group. Group A will feature Real Madrid, Manchester United, Roma and Internazionale, while Group B will feature Liverpool FC, Manchester City, AC Milan and Olympiacos. These club teams are considered to be some of the best in the world and will play across the United States as part of the Cup.
Among the venues the 2014 International Champions Cup will travel to include Citi Field in Flushing Queens, NY; Sports Authority Field at Mile High in Denver, CO; California Memorial Stadium in Berkley, CA; Solder Field in Chicago, IL; Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, PA; FedEx Field in Washington, DC; Cotton Bowl in Dallas, TX, Yankee Stadium in Bronx, NY; Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA; Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, MI; Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, NC; Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL; and TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, MN.
