Mother’s Market Raises Nearly $34,000 to Send Kids with Muscle Disease to MDA Summer Camp
Costa Mesa, CA (PRWEB) June 26, 2014 -- Mother’s Market & Kitchen today announced that through the generosity of its customers, it has raised nearly $34,000 to send 43 kids affected by muscle disease to MDA Summer Camp at the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center.
MDA summer camp offers a wide range of activities specially designed for youngsters who have limited mobility or use wheelchairs. Each year, campers have an unmatched opportunity to develop lifelong friendships, share interests, and build self-confidence.
“MDA campers dream about this life-changing summer camp all year and say it’s better than Christmas,” said Jessica Bourdeau, MDA executive director. “We appreciate and thank Mother’s Market & Kitchen, its customers, and employees for generously stepping up to help the communities we serve, making it possible for MDA kids to attend camp.”
It costs an average of $800 per camper to send a child affected by a neuromuscular disease to camp at no cost to their family. The summer camps also offer a week of respite for campers’ parents who often serve as full-time caregivers for their children.
Funds were raised through Mother’s Market’s “Summer Camp Sponsorship” campaign in partnership with MDA in Orange County. During the month of May, all seven Mother’s Market & Kitchen Orange County locations invited customers to donate $5 and receive a $5 coupon to be used during a future visit. Mother’s customers were provided with a great discount, while helping to drive progress in the fight for muscle health.
“We are honored to be working with MDA and thrilled to be sending 43 kids to summer camp,” said Mo Payette, CEO of Mother’s Market & Kitchen. “We want to thank our customers and employees for rallying around this very worthy effort to make it a success.”
