Cumberland Therapy Services Announces Speech-Language Pathology Scholarship Recipients
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) June 30, 2014 -- Cumberland Therapy Services, a leading provider of therapy and related special education services, today announced the recipients of its 2014/2015 scholarship program. Cumberland’s scholarship program was created to assist graduate students in an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Master’s program, with a desire to provide services to children in a school setting.
“We were truly overwhelmed with the talent and dedication of the graduate students who applied to the scholarship program,” said Erin Corcoran, President of Cumberland Therapy Services. “The high caliber of the applicants made for a very difficult decision in selecting only two to receive this financial assistance in reaching their educational goals.”
Lindsay Koth of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who is pursuing her Master’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, has been awarded the Bilingual Spanish Speech Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a student who is fluent in Spanish and English, with experience participating in programs for Spanish-speaking children and who intends to pursue a career providing bilingual Spanish speech therapy in a school setting. To date, Lindsay’s journey to improve the lives of children has taken her to Costa Rica with the Peace Corps, to Rwanda as an English Instructor, to Colorado to work with organizations improving the lives of people with disabilities, and now to graduate school. She plans to work with Milwaukee’s Spanish bilingual community.
The Passion for Peds Scholarship has been awarded to Kristin Immicke of West, Texas, who is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology from the Distance Learning Speech Pathology Program at Texas Woman’s University. The Passion for Peds Scholarship is awarded to a student in an accredited Speech-Language Pathology Master’s program with a displayed interest and experience in programs for school-age children with special needs, who intends to pursue a career providing speech therapy in a school setting. While working as a teacher in Texas schools, Kristin learned how important communication skills are for children to succeed academically and personally. She felt she could make a greater impact with students on a personal level by becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist. She is committed to bringing her new skills back to the school system, where her passion lies.
Each scholarship provides $2500 that can be used toward educational and clinical expenses including course and tuition payments, books, and clinical materials and equipment. To learn more, please visit us online at http://www.cumberlandtherapy.com/scholarships/.
