"Once you have good oral health, keep it that way by brushing and flossing, seeing the dentist regularly, and eating right," Dr. Reshad said.
Woodland Hills, CA (PRWEB) July 22, 2014
Eating certain foods can not only improve your overall health, but your dental health as well, according to two of the world’s top cosmetic dentists.
Prosthodontists Dr. Saj Jivraj and Dr. Mamaly Reshad of the Anacapa Dental Art Institute in Oxnard and Woodland Hills, Calif., know the negative effects of not taking care of one’s teeth. They are specially trained to replace missing teeth and produce beautiful, functional smiles.
“If you are not seeing a dentist regularly, and about two-thirds of the people in this country aren’t, you should find a dentist and get an exam,” Dr. Reshad said. “Once you have good oral health, keep it that way by brushing and flossing, seeing the dentist regularly, and eating right.”
Dr. Reshad and Dr. Jivraj offer these four tips on what you can consume for better oral health:
1. Crunchy vegetables and fruits. Just like in your body, crunchy vegetables and fruits are good for your teeth. Celery, carrots, apples and others require more chewing. Your mouth produces more saliva, which helps reduce bacteria that form plaque.
2. Milk. Calcium and other minerals build strong teeth and bones, including jaw bones.
3. Tap water. Almost all tap water contains fluoride, which strengthens teeth.
4. Tea. A University of Illinois at Chicago study found that black tea reduces the amount, size and stickiness of plaque in your mouth. But don’t drink too much, as tea can stain your teeth, and remember to brush promptly after drinking it.
Dr. Jivraj and Dr. Reshad are award-winning prosthodontists. They are specialists in implant, cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry. Both are former chairmen of the University of Southern California School of Dentistry’s Fixed Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry section. They also are international lecturers and published authors.

He currently holds a faculty position as an associate clinical professor at the USC School of Dentistry, clinical teacher at the Eastman Dental Institute in London and is on the board of directors for the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry.
Jivraj was voted “Best of USA” by his peers in 2008.
Dr. Reshad, a fellow prosthodontist, is an internationally known expert in restorative and cosmetic dental procedures. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and textbooks on various topics related to prosthodontics, aesthetics and implant dentistry.
