Visit Temecula Valley introduces Jim Carter, Temecula Valley Dreamer, and Golden California Vintner of Southern California Wine Country," announced Kimberly Adams, Visit Temecula Valley president and CEO.
Temecula, CA (PRWEB) June 30, 2014
“In celebration of extraordinary individuals who personify California’s anything-is-possible determination, Visit Temecula Valley introduces Jim Carter, Temecula Valley Dreamer, and Golden California Vintner of Southern California Wine Country. His South Coast Winery is three-time award winner of the prestigious, California Golden State Winery of the Year,” announced Kimberly Adams, president and CEO, Visit Temecula Valley (formerly Temecula Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau). “Wine writers acknowledge that popular Temecula Valley Wine Country’s Southern California (not Napa or Sonoma) location prompts doubt about fruit quality and talent to create exceptional wines. Meanwhile, South Coast Winery demonstrates Temecula Valley is a fine wine region. Certainly, there is quality fruit and quality winemaking at the three-time California Golden State Winery of the Year,” Adams appreciates with a smile. “Passion for quality wine grapes and a talented winemaking team are South Coast Winery’s foundation for great success.” Welcoming 2 million visitors, casual, picturesque Temecula Valley is 60 minutes from San Diego, Orange County, Palm Springs; 90 minutes from Los Angeles and Hollywood.
400 BEAUTIFUL ACRES
“In 1981, I purchased 400-acre (161-hectare) Wild Horse Peak,” Jim explains. “Then in 1995, a lush, thriving vineyard, movie vignette became inspiration for the property. I visited Napa Valley to learn all that I could, returned to have soils and climate analyzed, and learned conditions were ideal for growing some outstanding grape varietals.”
“Science is a good friend,” Jim advises. “It requires respecting Mother Nature, microclimates, and soil types to produce high-quality fruit and grape flavors. Today, as purposefully as in 1996, our vineyards are sustainably grown. I remember watching virgin soil become flourishing 200-acre (80-hectare) vineyards, and I am inspired even now.” Today, Jim’s Temecula Valley vineyards also include 26-acre/10-hectare Rolling Hills, 22-acre/8-hectare South Coast, and 70-acre/28-hectare Carter Estate.
TEMECULA VALLEY WINE COUNTRY
Jim’s early vintner years were as a winegrape grower, contracting to sell some of Temecula Valley’s finest fruit. “When time came to establish a winery, a talented winemaking team’s reputation for excellence was essential,” Jim explains. “Fine winemaking equipment was secured and South Coast Winery was founded in 2003. The quality commitment absolutely endures. Each year, we strive to bring all the promise of the grapes in the quality of the wine.”
Since 2003, Jim’s original winemaking team has produced South Coast Winery’s award-winning wines (65,000 cases yearly). The Temecula Valley winery creates a broad portfolio of premium still and sparkling wines as South Coast Winery, Wild Horse Peak Mountain, and Carter Estates. Under Wine Institute and Winegrape Growers’ California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance strict standards, the South Coast Winery vineyard estate is certified-sustainable.
THREE-TIME CALIFORNIA GOLDEN STATE WINERY
California State Fair Wine Competition recognizes dedication to viticulture, enology, and best commercial wines. In 2013, 2008 and 2009, South Coast Winery received coveted Golden State Winery of the Year awards.
2,000 AWARDS AND MEDALS
Since 2004 – in wine competitions like San Francisco Chronicle and international competitions in London, Paris, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego, South Coast Winery garners 2,000 honors for Temecula Valley grown-and-produced, premium quality wines. “I am highly optimistic about Temecula Valley Southern California Wine Country’s future and its role in helping expand California’s wine industry,” Jim says earnestly.
“I travelled throughout California visiting other wineries to develop our Temecula Valley Wine Country resort,” Jim shares. Nestled in the vineyards, distinctive South Coast Winery Resort & Spa offers wine tasting, educational behind-the-scenes tours, Vineyard Rose restaurant, villa-and-suite overnight accommodations, and GrapeSeed Spa.
ENJOYING TEMECULA VALLEY WINE COUNTRY
“I get great pleasure in what we have created,” Jim explains. “In the spring we celebrated our twelfth Blessing of the Vines. In fall, we have Blessing of the Wines. I have been very fortunate; it is important to make time for these blessings.”
“The most peaceful thing I do is driving through the vineyards to appreciate the quality of the grapes,” Jim says. “I enjoy what Temecula has become: big with small town warmth. And my wife and I enjoy entertainment and dining options at Pechanga Resort & Casino.”
