The new issue of ONE, the twice-yearly alumni magazine of the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, is available online and in print. The cover story (“Calculated Risk”), on the burgeoning business procedure known as enterprise risk management, notes that the financial crises of the past decade have put ERM on the fast track at companies across the globe. This fall, the Carey School will introduce a master’s program in ERM, to date the most comprehensive academic offering of its kind at a university.
Other features in the 2014 spring/summer edition of ONE examine the public’s changing tastes in electronic devices (“Tech Tastes Refreshed”) and the Carey School’s CityLab course (“Good Neighbors”), in which students use their business skills to help revive urban communities in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.
Also in this issue, Margaret A. “Peggy” Focarino, Commissioner for Patents for the United States Patent and Trademark Office, writes about the agency’s efforts to meet the demands of 21st-century advances in technology (“Patently Improved”); and Dr. N. Anthony “Tony” Coles Jr., the former chairman, chief executive, and president of Onyx Pharmaceuticals, and a Carey donor, engages in a Q-and-A that focuses on his career and business philosophy (“Be Sure You Make An Impact”).
The full issue, including regular ONE departments about the achievements of Carey alumni, faculty, and students, can be read online at http://www.carey.jhu.edu/magazine/.
