Awards Will Recognize Innovators in the Energy & Utility Industry

June 30, 2014 – FierceMarkets ( announced today the launch of its second annual Fierce Innovation Awards program targeting the energy and utility industry. The Fierce Innovation Awards: Energy Edition is a utility-reviewed awards program from the publishers of FierceEnergy and FierceSmartGrid. The program is designed to recognize technology companies that are on the cutting edge of innovation and those who are leading the industry towards a smarter energy future.

Jason Nelson, Publisher of FierceEnergy and FierceSmartGrid, says, “We were thrilled with the level of innovative products and services submitted by applicants last year. I’m excited to see this year’s submissions, which I’m sure will be testaments to the advancements made in technology over the past twelve months. The online submission process is now open so that companies may submit their product or service for review. Each application will be evaluated by an expert panel of executives from major North American utility companies. The judges’ panel includes: Kevin Dasso, Director of Technology and Information Strategy, Pacific Gas and Electric Company; Conrad Eustis, Director Retail Technology Strategy, Portland General Electric; Robert B. Frazier, Director of Electric Technology, CenterPoint Energy; Stuart Laval, Manager of Technology Development, Duke Energy; Bryan J. Olnick, Vice President of Distribution Operations in Power Delivery, Florida Power & Light; Joseph E. Svachula, Vice President of Smart Grid and Technology, Commonwealth Edison; and Cheri Warren, Vice President, Asset Management, National Grid.

Judges will evaluate submissions based on the following criteria: technology innovation, financial impact, market validation, compatibility with existing network environments, end-user customer experience, and overall level of innovation.

The deadline to apply is Friday, August 22, 2014. Winners will be announced by during a live webcast on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2PM ET.
