Kelly Cook Appointed to State Bar’s Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct Committee
Houston, TX (PRWEB) June 27, 2014 -- Houston Attorney Kelly E. Cook has recently been appointed by the State of Bar of Texas to serve on its Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct standing committee. According to the Texas Bar’s website, the role of this committee is to evaluate and suggest revisions to disciplinary rules that are enforced by the state bar. Attorney Cook, who is one of the founding partners at Wyly & Cook, LLP, begins his term as a member of this committee on June 27, 2014.
Attorneys in Texas are required to comply with the Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct and the Texas Rules of Disciplinary Procedure, according to the Texas Bar’s website. Lawyers who are accused of acting unethically and violating the rules must undergo the grievance process. If these legal professionals are found by the state bar to have carried out professional misconduct, they may be subject to disciplinary action. The Texas Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct standing committee plays an important role in shaping the standards for disciplinary action that is taken against lawyers who have failed to uphold the appropriate ethical standards.
In addition to his new committee member roles, Attorney Cook is also a member of The College of the State Bar of Texas. This is an honorary society of Texas lawyers who have completed at least twice the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) coursework required by the Texas Bar, according to the society’s website. Attorneys who are accepted into The College of the State Bar of Texas are those who exemplify a commitment to top-level professional ethics and improved lawyer training.
Attorney Cook was admitted to practice law in Maryland in 2004, and in Texas in 2008. He has also been admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas and the U.S. District Court for Maryland. He is an experienced trial lawyer who has handled various types of motor vehicle accident cases and other personal injury cases throughout his law career. Mr. Cook has earned prestigious honors for his legal work, which include being named to the “Top Lawyers 2013” list published by Houstonia magazine, being selected for the Texas Super Lawyers® Rising Stars℠ list in 2013 and 2014, and being given a 10.0 Superb Avvo Rating.
