Breaking away from a tradition prevalent in the Indian film industry, where screenplays are pitched behind closed doors for fear of plagiarism, the screenplay for MAYA is being pitched, in electronic format, to a select few Production Studios in the city of Mumbai - the heart of 'Bollywood'
While this practice is common in Hollywood, with tracking-boards tracking the "heat" a script generates as it makes it way through Prodcos, Bollywood is yet to see scripts being openly submitted and tracked.
MAYA is classified as a psychological science fiction screenplay, with a difference - No aliens, mythological characters, supermen, destruction of cities or other dystopias make it to the pages.
The title has been chosen for it's Sanskrit translation - "Illusion".
The story features Daniel, Dan – ethnicity American/Indian as the Protagonist, and Krish, a young Indian scientist, sharing equal screen-time.
Maya, the female lead is Indian. The screen play for the better part is based in the city of Mumbai, and a secondary location, though suggesting New-york, can be seen as a composite of a city of the near future. Parts of South Mumbai qualify as a likely location.
"Study Street"- a real world location in Mumbai, plays an inspiring role in the screenplay, that could see Indian Communications giants take up the initiative, played out in the script.
MAYA's target audience is an emerging strata of tech savvy, young Indian adults, living in Metros. The aim is for the film to penetrate a wider demographic audience and, perhaps become a catalyst to kick-start a trend in intelligent sci-fi movies, originating from India.
