St. Augustine Bed and Breakfast, the Bayfront Marin House, Shares Fourth of July Menu
St. Augustine, Florida (PRWEB) July 02, 2014 -- The cooks at the Bayfront Marin House, a waterfront bed and breakfast in St. Augustine, Florida, have put together a patriotic menu for the Fourth of July that will have their guests celebrating the nation's history, while enjoying delicious treats for hapy hour.
"We thought it would be fun to feature historic recipes that were enjoyed earlier in our nation's history," says bed and breakfast owner Mike Wieber. All the recipes for the inn's two-hour happy hour on July 4 will be taken from the White House Cookbook of 1887.
"There were plenty of recipes that we didn't have any interest in replicating," says Wieber. "But there were plenty that looked quite good, as well. We ultimately came up with four recipes that we thought would be wonderful heritage treats for Independence Day."
Menu items for July 4 include ham salad on toast, crab salad (a nod to Wiebers' Maryland home), cayenne cheese twists and homemade pickles. In addition, the bed and breakfast staff will make a cherry pie for dessert.
"We know that the story of George Washington cutting down a cherry tree is a myth," says Wieber, "but we found a recipe that promised a 'most good pie', and we thought that would be an appropriate way to end Independence Day 2014."
The Bayfront Marin House is located in St. Augustine's historic district, and is just a short walk to everything that downtown has to offer travelers--great dining, museums, art galleries, as well as the Fireworks over the Matanzas. In fact, the fireworks can be seen from the inn's front lawn.
"There's no better place to celebrate the birth of our nation than St. Augustine, the oldest city in the country," says Wieber. "Visitors who want to celebrate with us should call us at (904) 824-4301, or go online to
