DORMA Delivers Professional Enrichment Series Benefiting Western Canada Architects and Designers
Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) June 30, 2014 -- A series of for-credit educational sessions, begun last week by DORMA, an international manufacturer of premium access products and solutions, will continue through this fall as the company takes up residence in its new offices at Suite 1010, 510 Burrard in Vancouver.
This week’s sessions brought together representatives from leading Vancouver firms with expert DORMA personnel. Each program, accompanied by a luncheon, is fully accredited by the American Institute of Architects as well as the Architecture Institute of British Columbia (AIBC). Participants receive one continuing education credit for each hour-long program, contributing to their biennial continuing education requirements for AIBC. In addition to those events conducted in the DORMA offices, the company is able to arrange them in the offices of architecture and design firms interested in taking part.
This week’s topics addressed the specification and installation of contemporary access technology, including:
- Glass wall systems (June 24), with attention to types/applications, design options and specifications
- Operable wall systems (June 25), focusing on panel characteristics and configurations, suspension systems, acoustical seals and their contributions to desired STC levels, and the relationship of health and safety to the movement and fire ratings of operable partitions
- Locks, exit devices and key systems (June 26), including the function and application of various types of hardware; their correct specification; their application to fire doors, egress doors, and accessibility compliant openings; and correct selection of hardware for preservation and reuse of buildings
