CarePoint Health – Christ Hospital Recognized as a Top Hospital in Women’s Health
Jersey City, NJ (PRWEB) June 30, 2014 -- CarePoint Health – Christ Hospital today announced that it has been recognized for the Healthgrades Maternity Care Excellence Award, Five-Star Recipient for Maternity Care, and Five-Star Recipient for Gynecologic Surgery for providing outstanding performance in GYN surgery, as measured by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals. The distinction places CarePoint Health – Christ Hospital within the top 10% of all hospitals evaluated for the exceptional care provided to mothers (during and after childbirth) and to their newborn children.
Gynecologic surgery includes surgery on the female reproductive system to treat benign tumors, cancer, infertility, incontinence, and various other conditions. In its analysis, Healthgrades found that there is a significant variation in quality for gynecologic surgery. From 2010 through 2012, patients treated in hospitals receiving 5-stars for Gynecologic Surgery have, on average, a 57.45% lower risk of experiencing complications than if they were treated in hospitals receiving 1-star. From 2010 through 2012, if all hospitals performed similarly to hospitals receiving 5-stars in Gynecologic Surgery, 17,760 in-hospital complications may have potentially been avoided.
To help consumers evaluate and compare hospital performance in maternity care, Healthgrades analyzed patient outcome data for virtually every hospital in the 17 states that provide all-payer state data for years 2010 through 2012. Healthgrades found that the variation in hospital performance can make a difference in terms of clinical outcomes. Its report highlights that patients treated at 5-star rated hospitals had 54.3% fewer complications during a vaginal childbirth delivery, and 77.5% fewer during a C-section delivery than those treated at 1-star rated hospitals.
“I want to thank our physicians and staff for this accomplishment and commitment to our program,” said Nizar Kifaieh, President and Chief Medical Officer of CarePoint Health – Christ Hospital.
“It is important for women to have confidence in their choice of a healthcare provider. The Healthgrades 2014 Women’s Health Award recipients have achieved this distinction by demonstrating an established commitment to clinical care and providing better than expected outcomes in women’s health over an extended period of time,” said Evan Marks, Executive Vice President, Informatics and Strategy, Healthgrades. “Choosing one of these hospitals can help provide piece of mind to women that they are making the right decision for their healthcare.”
