Lt. Col. Oliver North, USMC (Ret.) host of “War Stories” on Fox News Channel and frequent commentator will be the keynote speaker at an annual dinner benefiting the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land in Dallas, Texas on September 13, 2014.
Chief organizer and FFHL board member, Susan Stanzel has been hard at work planning the upcoming dinner to raise funds in support of the mission of the FFHL. According to the Foundation website, the mission of the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land is to preserve the Christian presence in the Holy Land.
In addition to Oliver North, honored guests will include Fr. Peter Vasko, ofm, President of the FFHL and Zaki Sahlia, beneficiary and graduate of a four-year university scholarship provided by the Franciscan Foundation for the Holy Land.
Both men reside in Jerusalem.
Recent head assistant to Pope Francis during his pilgrimage to the Holy Land was Fr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa, ofm, Franciscan Custos of the Holy Land. His role is to oversee all of the work of the Franciscans on behalf of Christians throughout the Middle East. Fr. Pizzaballa was slated to attend the dinner but had to cancel due to other travel requirements, according to Mrs. Stanzel.
Other honored guests include a number of U.S. Bishops.
Renowned harpist, Julieet Buchanan will be providing music, with David Haskins playing the piano.
Susan Stanzel, a woman who has dedicated twenty years of her life to raising awareness of the plight of Christians in the Holy Land, has been responsible for raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the fourteen programs of the FFHL that include university scholarships, housing renovations, child sponsorships, job creation and social services, among others, according to Fr. Peter Vakso.
“She has been a selfless supporter from the beginning,” he said. “We owe her a lot.”
