Christmas and model trains have long been tied together. Now, a Santa has opened a shop to bring them together to help promote the hobby.

http//http://www.allaroundmodeltrains.com has been opened by Santa Richard Bonnington to tie together model trains and the Christmas season. Santa Richard has been a Santa for more than 10 years. He has operated Santa’s Northshore Workshop in Chattanooga, TN, for the past 5 years. “Children have been interested in model trains for many years,” Santa Richard explained. “There is a peak in interest at Christmas time.”

“My younger brother and I received our first train set on a Christmas morning. It was a 2-4-2 Lionel steam engine. The set also included a tender, gondola, box car and caboose. There was only enough track to form a simple circle,” Santa Richard stated. “Although it was a small set, we enjoyed it. The next Christmas we received a set with a Union Pacific diesel, along with more cars and track. We also got a pair of manual switches.”

“Over the next few years we received additional engines, cars, track and switches. We started to receive plastic buildings as well as other accessories,” he went on. “Our house had a large unfinished attic and we took it over for our layout.” Santa Richard went on, “we had a small hobby shop a few blocks away from our home and that came to be a regular stop for us when we had extra money to spend.”

Santa Richard stated that he had a wooden train layout at Santa’s Northshore Workshop for the younger children to play with when they come to visit Santa. He sees the same level of excitement in them as I had with my trains. Many of the children tell him about their interest in trains and their fathers and grandfathers admit to the same interest.

“Unfortunately, the local hobby shop is no longer available in many parts of the country,” he declared. “I thought it was a good time for Santa to solve that problem.” As a result, he has opened http//http://www.allaroundmodeltrains.com as a source for model trains and accessories. “Initially, we are featuring HO, N and Z scale trains and equipment.” Most popular brands are available.
