In the New York City office, Joi L. Garner and Brian A. Poloner have joined the firm’s sports and entertainment practice. Senior Associate Joi L. Garner focuses primarily on general corporate and transactional matters, including venture financings, mergers and acquisitions and joint ventures. Ms. Garner advises businesses, athletes, recording artists, television personalities and authors on a broad range of matters including, technology, intellectual property, brand management and commercial contracts. She joins Garvey Schubert Barer from Morrison & Foerster LLP. Brian A. Poloner focuses primarily on transactional sports and entertainment and general corporate matters. He has worked in the business and legal affairs departments at Warner Bros. Records and Focus Features, where he built his legal foundation in music industry contracts and film distribution agreements.
In the Portland Office, Patrick Conti has joined the firm as a litigation associate, where he focuses on Intellectual Property Litigation, Intellectual Property Transactions, Commercial Litigation and Class Actions. Prior to joining Garvey Schubert Barer, he was an associate at Arnold & Porter in California, where he worked on a wide variety of matters in state and federal courts, including licensing and contract disputes, business torts, and consumer class actions.
Earlier this year, in its Portland Office, Garvey Schubert Barer added two attorneys, Steven D. Nofziger and Jennifer F. Gould. Steven D. Nofziger has returned to Garvey Schubert Barer after spending several years practicing with Hershner Hunter, LLP, one of the preeminent law firms in Eugene, Oregon. Mr. Nofziger first joined Garvey Schubert Barer in 2006 and practiced with the firm until he and his family moved to Eugene in 2011. Mr. Nofziger’s practice focuses on employee benefits and executive compensation, taxation and business planning matters. Jennifer F. Gould focuses on litigation and estate planning. Before joining Garvey Schubert Barer, Jen was an associate at Morrison & Foerster LLP’s San Francisco office, where she worked on a variety of civil litigation matters.
In Seattle, Bill Humphries, Courtney Lee Tawresey and Miriam R. Woods have joined the firm. Bill Humphries focuses on real estate, business, and franchising. He has experience assisting clients in real estate transactional matters such as the purchase, sale, and leasing of commercial real estate. He also has experience in the unique practice of franchise. Before becoming an attorney, Bill practiced as a Certified Public Accountant. Courtney Lee Tawresey focuses on business, transaction, and federal and international tax law. She advises U.S. and foreign corporations, partnerships, and individuals in tax and business planning matters and consults with clients on the potential tax implications for cross-border operations and investment transactions. Courtney has worked as an International Tax Senior Associate at Grant Thornton LLP in Denver, Colorado, and practiced litigation and employment law in Colorado. Miriam R. Woods is passionate about tax law. She litigates state and local tax matters with a focus on Washington property tax and excise tax. Prior to joining the firm, Miriam worked as a State and Local Tax Associate at KPMG LLP.
