Each year, EarthWorks recognizes business clubs, organizations and individuals that deserve special recognition for their work on behalf of a clean, healthy environment. Potential candidates can range from a student that started a recycling program at their elementary school, to a government official that pushed for banning the use of plastic bags in local grocery stores.
This June, Sullivan Solar Power attended the Very Important Planet (V.I.P.) Reception, and was given the Environmental Action and Restoration That Helps (E.A.R.T.H.) Award by San Diego EarthWorks. Sullivan Solar Power was recognized for giving back to their local community through its partnership with non-profit organization, GRID Alternatives, that provided solar power systems for low-income families.
GRID Alternatives is a San Diego-based nonprofit organization that provides low-to-no cost solar electric systems to families that qualify as low income. Solar panels are installed by volunteers to provide hands-on experience for those interested in philanthropic work or looking to get jobs in the growing solar industry. Sullivan Solar Power partnered with GRID Alternatives in May 2013 to donate one locally-manufactured solar panel to their cause for every solar system sold over a year. As a result of this partnership, it is anticipated that 93 low-income households will have received solar installations at no cost.
San Diego EarthWorks, known for their famous Earth Day at Balboa Park event, recognized Sullivan Solar Power and this program as one that created a clean, healthy, prosperous, and sustainable future for the region. For additional information, visit http://www.sullivansolarpower.com.
