The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe Receives 2014 Mayor Arts Award for Cultural Investment
Snoqualmie, Washington (PRWEB) July 01, 2014 -- On Thursday, June 26th, City of Seattle Mayor Ed Murray announced the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe as the recipient of the 2014 Mayor’s Arts Award for Cultural Investment. The Arts Awards are given in six categories and the winners are chosen from a pool of public nominations. This year there were more than 650 nominations. The Mayor’s Awards recognize the contributions of artists, arts, and cultural organizations and community members who make Seattle a city of creativity.
The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe is the first tribal government to receive a Mayor’s Arts Award.
“The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe is very excited and proud to receive this award,” said Tribal Chairwoman Carolyn Lubenau. “The Tribe supports many of the Puget Sound’s exemplary arts organizations and we are pleased to collaborate and seek ways to expand open access programs that allow these organizations to share their treasures with the region’s underserved communities.”
The Snoqualmie Tribe has donated over $4 million dollars to non-profit organizations located in Washington State. Over fifty arts and culture organizations including the Seattle Art Museum, Seattle International Film Festival, Genius Awards, Seattle Symphony, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Experience Music Project, Vera Project, Seattle Children’s Theatre, and Longhouse Media have received donations from the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe in the past four years.
The Snoqualmie Tribe and the other five award recipients will be honored at the Mayor’s Arts Awards ceremony on Friday, August 29th at 4pm.
