The following statement is a reaction from Progressive Choice, a 501(c)(4) issues advocacy organization fighting to protect core values like women's access to healthcare, marriage equality, public safety through gun control and public education funding for children and families:
"At Progressive Choice, we believe all women should have the right to affordable health care. Monday's Supreme Court ruling in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby that allows some businesses to deny the contraceptive coverage offered to women as part of the Affordable Care Act is an assault on women's reproductive and health care freedoms.
"This decision is a huge step backward for our country. Women should have full rights - not more barriers - to affordable health care.
"The Court's broad ruling doesn't just impact women. It also creates a slippery slope that could lead corporations with a religious affiliation to use religion as a reason to justify hiring and other benefit practices based on their religious beliefs.
"At Progressive Choice, our work across the country is and will continue to be aimed at reducing barriers to individual rights - those that should be equal, regardless of which company you work for or what state you live in.
"As can be seen from our latest effort, the Happy Factor project (http://www.whatsyourhappyfactor.com), many states have a long way to go, and Monday's decision only makes our work more important.
"Progressive Choice stands with Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who released a statement urging women to stay strong in this fight, saying, 'Don't take 'no' for an answer. If it didn't work today, tomorrow is another day.'"
