The farm families of The Farmer’s Cow are celebrating National Ice Cream Month with REAL Local events at two of its member Connecticut farms. - On Saturday, July 12, the Peracchio family will host a tour at scenic Hytone Farm in Coventry from noon to 3pm. Hytone Farm has the fourth generation of Peracchios working the land to produce high quality Connecticut milk. Visitors will tour the barns that are home to the milking herd, visit the calves in the greenhouse, see the youngstock, tour the milking center, view the surrounding fields of grass and corn, and gain an understanding of life on a Connecticut family dairy farm. After the tour complimentary refreshments will be served including The Farmer’s Cow ice cream and cold Summer Beverages.
- On Sunday, July 20, in celebration of National Ice Cream Day, the Orr family will host the annual “Ice Cream & Bluegrass Bash” at the historic Fort Hill Farms in Thompson from 1 to 4pm. Last summer, more than 1,000 visitors enjoyed this toe-tapping, foot-stomping party featuring complimentary "Itty Bitty" cones of The Farmer’s Cow fresh Connecticut ice cream. Blackstone Valley Bluegrass will perform live music with powerful three and four-part harmonies. Visitors are also invited to tour the award-winning Quintessential Gardens, enjoy a wagon ride around the fields and meet the calves that will grow up to join the herd as the next generation of The Farmer’s Cow milking cows.
“The Farmer’s Cow farm tours are a great opportunity to visit the cows that make the milk and learn about all the ways that REAL Local agriculture is good for Connecticut,” says Robin Chesmer, managing member of The Farmer’s Cow. “We want people to visit our family farms and experience where local food comes from.”
