International District Energy Association Awards System of the Year Award to Middle Eastern Industry Leader
Seattle, Washington (PRWEB) July 02, 2014 -- The International District Energy Association (IDEA) awarded its System of the Year Award on June 10 at its 105th Annual Conference and Trade Show in Seattle, Washington. With over 600 people in attendance, IDEA Past Chair Raymond DuBose proudly presented this distinction to Qatar Cool for their system on The Pearl-Qatar.
The IDEA System of the Year Award was originally based on the Building Owners and Managers Association’s (BOMA) Building of the Year Award as a means to: provide an industry benchmark for overall excellence; offer a platform for sharing ideas and best practices that have made systems successful; identify and recognize those systems that best demonstrate the overall importance of district energy in the marketplace; and, to publicize district energy as a progressive industry that seeks constant improvement in the services it provides.
Since its inception in 1992, the IDEA System of the Year award has come to be associated with “the best of the best.” Over the past 20 years, IDEA has recognized many truly outstanding district energy systems, operating at very high efficiencies with flawless service records and very high customer satisfaction reviews. Qatar Cool meets all standards that submissions are evaluated on – system performance, energy efficiency, reliability, availability, environmental performance, employee health and safety, community involvement, and participation and contributions to advancing the industry – and will rightfully join the ranks of prior winners.
Qatar Cool was established in 2003 and began operations in 2006. They have an amazing record of growth, efficiency improvements, customer satisfaction and excellence. They also received the IDEA System of the Year Award in 2012 for another system they own and operate serving the West Bay area of Doha, Qatar. Since then, Qatar Cool has developed an entirely new system serving development on a man-made island in Doha, The Pearl-Qatar. Qatar Cool’s system on The Pearl started in 2009 and has grown with the development of the island. The system features the world’s largest district cooling plant with 130,000 tons of installed cooling capacity. They have demonstrated continuous improvement with a system efficiency that has been close to 100% for the past three years.
Reducing environmental impact is a major concern for Qatar Cool, and since the system’s opening, they have saved over 65,000 tons of carbon dioxide. The company’s excellent system performance and reliability, in combination with their commitment to health and safety, as well as their focus on promoting social and environmental responsibility, has esteemed them as an industry benchmark for excellence.
When accepting the System of the Year Award, Issa Qandeel, Vice President of Development with Qatar Cool said, “We are so happy and honored to receive such a highly regarded award from IDEA.
