Cultural travel company receives top honor as it approaches 20th anniversary.

“When we started Classic Journeys 20 years ago, our not-so-humble mission was to make sure every guest had the trip of a lifetime,” said Edward Piegza, founder and president of Classic Journeys.

Classic Journeys, the award-winning cultural travel company that offers boutique guided tours in over 75 regions, 35 countries, and 5 continents, announced today that it has been awarded the top honor of World’s Best Tour Operator from the esteemed publication, Travel + Leisure. The award comes as Classic Journeys is poised to enter its 20th season. Travel + Leisure readers scored Classic Journeys a 97.09 out of a possible 100 points on six criteria: guides, itineraries, activities, accommodations, food and value, resulting in the company’s #1 ranking.

In celebrating the award, company president and founder, Edward Piegza, commented, “When we started Classic Journeys 20 years ago, our not-so-humble mission was to make sure every guest had the trip of a lifetime. In our hearts, we were sure we could do it because we knew how much we loved to travel, and the style in which we liked to travel. And we were just crazy and ambitious enough to think that if we could bottle that, we’d succeed. We still look at our trips and ask what else we can do to make each departure the best of the best.”

Classic Journeys has long been recognized as a leader in the tour operator space, offering bespoke and group cultural walking, culinary and multisport family journeys to over 75 regions around the world. The company is well-known for its ability to curate exceptionally hand-crafted and authentic experiences on each of their journeys. This ability is largely the result of its long-standing relationships with an extensive network of local guides. Each itinerary is led by an expert who is local to the region visited, so that Classic Journeys’ guests enjoy insider access to some of the most significant and culturally-specific interactions. Classic Journeys also offers top quality accommodations and dining experiences as a result of years of relationships built with top restaurants and hoteliers.

Last year, Classic Journeys made international news and saw record reservations with the addition of one of the first and finest people-to-people exchanges to Cuba, a region long out of reach for American travelers. The success of the Cuba journeys mirrors the reason that Classic Journeys is being honored by Travel + Leisure: a commitment to providing its travelers the most authentic, immersive and culturally-rich travel experiences possible. The company has for almost 20 seasons endeavored to establish deep cultural understanding and interaction between their travelers and the people where they travel, while creating invaluable memories and trips of a lifetime.

Classic Journeys will celebrate the honor with Travel + Leisure in New York City on July 24, when the company will be formally presented with the award.
