Des Moines, IA (PRWEB) July 07, 2014 -- The Architecture Business Plan Competition has announced the 2014 winners. Jury members read through 51 Executive Summaries and placed their votes to select six finalists. The finalists presented to the jury members in Chicago on June 25, 2014. On June 26, 2014 the winners were announced.
The first place winner receiving $10,000 was Scott Larrick of Eleven:59 Studio (Austin, Texas):
Eleven:59 Studio is poised to become the first Architecture firm in Austin, Texas to specialize in the design and construction of small, sustainable, prefabricated homes at an affordable price. The new business is led by Scott Larrick, NCARB, LEED AP, who has owned and operated a successful architectural practice in Austin since 2011. As cited in their submission, the ultimate goal of Eleven:59 is "to put our unique sets of skills into work that we love, for a purpose we believe in, while providing a sustainable source of income and creating positive social change around us" — a mission that all successful design firms should aspire to.
The second place winner receiving $2,500 was Katherine Darnstadt of Latent Design (Chicago, Illinois):
Latent Design is a Chicago-based progressive architecture firm and strategic design consultancy working at the intersection of design and community development. The firm's work includes small-scale tactical interventions, community buildings, adaptive reuse, neighborhood master plans, and design speculations. Katherine Darnstadt, AIA, founded Latent Design in 2010 with $10,000 and a laptop during a time of personal change and economic distress in our industry. Challenging stereotypes of youth, women and race in the industry, the firm has grown in three years to international accolades, large projects and unique partnerships with public and private stakeholders.
The honorable mention category receiving $1,000 was Seth Anderson of Ascent Architecture & Interiors (Bend, Oregon):
