Burlesque Entertainer Transforms Women’s Self-Image With 5-Week How-To Workshop
Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) July 05, 2014 -- Using glamour, glitter and movements that women of any age or body type can master, Roxy Star, an award-winning burlesque performer featured at the Colorado Burlesque Festival, will transform women’s self-image with a 5-week workshop called “Sexylesque,” from Aug. 10 to Sept. 13. Now in its fourth year, this popular, limited-engagement workshop teaches Industry presentation skills and movement that enhances personal body image and acceptance. “Sexylesque” is offered 3 times annually, and this is the last workshop of 2014. Online enrollment is available at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/761459, or by calling Brown Paper Tickets’ 24/7 event concierge at 1-800-838-3006.
“Educated and success-oriented women of all ages and from all walks of life are the people who sign up for ‘Sexylesque,’” said Star. “Some do it for fun and fitness. Others want to get their ‘groove back,’ and still others are just larger than life and have the moxie to do burlesque midlife, but don’t know where to get started.”
Students will meet in Denver on Sundays, Aug.10, 17, 31, Sept. 7 and on Saturday, Sept. 13. Workshop sessions include 2.5-hours of study and movement, including choreography, technique and costuming. Peeling stockings, unlacing corsets and shimmying feathers are just a few examples of what is on the course curriculum. The workshop will culminate in a full production student showcase on Sept. 13, where each woman debuts her act and stage name. In order to accommodate women who require discretion for professional or personal reasons, the showcase is a private, invitation-only event.
“When I founded the ‘Sexylesque’ workshop, I envisioned classes focused on the fun of fake eyelashes and sparkling costumes, while also offering guidance and uplifting advice about self image,” said Star. “I quickly learned that feeling emboldened was just as important to entry-level students of burlesque as feeling skilled. You are forced to believe in yourself, but unlike therapy, the process is a ton of fun. When they grace the stage in all their glittery glory, they are astonished at what they’ve accomplished.”
All ages, fitness levels and body shapes are welcome to learn from the award-winning burlesque master. “I have found that body shape has nothing to do with a woman’s success in front of an audience,” Star said. “Rather, it’s a woman’s perception of her body that influences her stage presence. ‘Sexylesque’ is a style, a workshop and a show…but most importantly it’s a journey toward self love.”
Roxy Star will be performing at the Colorado Burlesque Festival, Thursday, July 10.
Students who register for “Sexylesque” by July 15 will enjoy $25 off the regular price, and those who register between July 16-20 will receive a $15 discount. To register, or for more information about the final “Sexylesque” workshop of 2014, go to http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/761459.
