American College of Education to Confer More Than 1,000 Master of Education Degrees at Summer Commencement
Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) July 08, 2014 -- American College of Education, a leading provider of online graduate programs for educators, will hold its 2014 Summer Commencement on Saturday, July 19, at the Drury Lane Theatre and Conference Center in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois. The college offers advanced degrees for educators and confers about 1,800 degrees each year.
Literacy advocate Wendi Dwyer will deliver the commencement address on the theme, Promoting Literacy Around the World. Dwyer leads a non-profit organization striving to raise the literacy rate in South Sudan. “We are honored to have Wendi deliver the commencement address,” said Shawntel Landry, interim president and provost for American College of Education. “Sharing her experiences to help educate leaders and teachers in other countries, such as South Sudan, will motivate all of us to increase our own efforts wherever we may teach.”
At the ceremony, American College of Education will recognize David Stuart Jr. from Cedar Springs, Michigan, as its Alumni Achievement Award recipient. This award is given to an alumnus based on leadership in the field and service to the college. A leader of teachers and often featured speaker/facilitator, Stuart achieved a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction at American College of Education where he attributes his leadership drive and success.
“Before enrolling with American College of Education, I didn’t engage much with the educators outside of my classroom,” said Stuart. “In my first leadership class, I learned that leadership is about having relationships of influence which led to my blog and speaking engagements.” In his blog, TeachingtheCore.com, Stuart shares his educational leadership skills with more than 104,000 viewers each year. He also has written a book for teachers, which will be released this September, and travels across the country conducting leadership workshops.
The ceremony also will feature a Faculty Award for Excellence, which will be presented to Rebecca Wiehe, Ph.D., core faculty member and bilingual/ESL coordinator. “We are happy to honor Rebecca with this award for her outstanding performance in teaching, research, presentations and publications and service to our college,” said Landry. “We truly are blessed with an outstanding faculty.”
One of the founding principles at American College of Education is to improve the quality of education throughout the world. The college offers Master of Education, Specialist and Doctoral degree programs for teachers and other education professionals in addition to certificates and paths to licensure programs. The college is known for high academic standards, innovative programs and quality student support.
The commencement ceremony begins at 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by a reception honoring the graduates. To learn more, please visit http://www.ace.edu/commencement.
