Ohio Civil Engineering and Surveying Firm KS Associates, Inc. Celebrates Ground Breaking of ODOT SR-57 Corridor Improvement Project
(PRWEB) July 09, 2014 -- On July 1, 2014, KS Associates, Inc., a civil engineering and surveying firm located in Elyria, Ohio, took part in a ground breaking ceremony for the major SR-57 Corridor Improvement Project. The project extends north from The Ohio Turnpike to the I-90 interchange with SR-57 in the City of Elyria. KS Associates served as the lead design consultant under contract with the Ohio Department of Transportation District 3. The project, with a construction cost of $20 million, is the largest roadway design project in KS Associates’ history. When constructed, the project will improve safety and reduce congestion in this heavily commercial area, and will serve as an economic catalyst for the region.
According to Lynn S. Miggins, P.E., President of KS Associates and Principal in Charge for the project, “This heavily traveled route experiences a high incidence of accidents and contains one of the highest crash sites in Ohio. In addition, the existing route makes it difficult for travelers to access Midway Mall and the many retail establishments on the east and west sides of SR-57. When complete, the project will greatly improve safety, drivers will be able to easily enter and exit SR-57 without having to wind their way around to and cross the 49th Street Bridge, and the City of Elyria will have the transportation infrastructure it needs to create an opportunity corridor for future growth.”
KS Associates’ design calls for widening SR-57 from two to three lanes in each direction; constructing two signalized intersections at Midway Boulevard and Griswold Road; removing the 49th Street Bridge, which has long confused travelers entering and exiting SR 57; and removing the loop ramps at I-90 and providing a full diamond interchange.
The project is anticipated to be completed in 2016.
