Elko Speedway: July 5th, 2014 Race Night Recap
Elko, MN (PRWEB) July 07, 2014 -- It was a pleasant homecoming for Jacob Goede from Carver (MN) who won the 40 lap MN Corn Growers NASCAR Whelen All American series Super Late Model main event at Elko Speedway on Saturday night.
Goede started 9th in the 16 car field and slowly picked his way towards the lead, but not before an intense battle for the top spot with Chad Walen. “He was racing me real tight once I started making ground,” said Goede “he started not giving me any extra room but, that is what you have to do when your racing for the win.” They had some contact with just a handful of laps remaining in the race. “I let him gather it up and then we battled again,” said Goede. “It was a good, fun race.”
Jacob has been racing across the country in various Super Late Model touring series for much of the last decade, scoring wins in such places as Bristol Motor Speedway, Iowa Speedway and Mansfield (OH). This year he has decided to stick closer to home and compete for the championship at Elko Speedway. “I miss racing here,” said Goede. “Our family is growing and it’s nice to drive just a half hour to the race track, it’s also nice to be in front of all the family and friends.”
Paul Paine from Mound (MN) is still the leading in the point standings, he has an 11 point advantage over Jacob Goede, 13 points over Chad Walen and Jacobs’ brother Matt Goede is now 14 points behind in the race for the Championship at the Midwest Center for Speed.
An impressive field of 26 cars took to the track in the Genz-Ryan Thunder Car division. Conrad Jorgenson from Lakeville (MN) started 7th on the grid and quickly moved his way to the front of the field on lap 6 of the 25 lap main event. He held off the hard charges of Jeff Partington and Brent Kane to take the win.
Jorgenson holds a slim 3 point lead in the point standings over defending champion Brent Kane who blew a motor in the pre-race practice session, his crew changed the power plant and got the car ready to race without missing a lap of race time.
Ryan Kamish from Farmington (MN) won the thirty lap cautionless main event in the Big 8 division at Elko Speedway. Kamish won by just .233 seconds over a hard charging Michael Ostdiek. Chris Marek from Lakeville (MN) finished fifth in that race and held onto the Championship point lead by just five points over rookie contender Cole Anderson from Northfield (MN) who finished 7th.
Paul Hamilton from Hastings (MN) won the crazy 20 lap Pepsi Power Stock feature. The race went without a caution, but not without action “there was a lot of stuff going on out there,” said Hamilton “I was praying for no caution, no caution.” Hamilton was able to take the lead early and stretch out a 2.493 second advantage at the finish line even though drivers in his rear view mirror were battling each other three wide in the corners. “It was nice to get that lead, so I could just go and hit my marks,” said Hamilton.
Two time winner Nick Oxborough from Savage (MN) leads the point standings by 8 over rookie racer Grant Brown from Prior Lake (MN), Hamilton currently sits third place in the standings.
Tyler Christensen from Bloomington (MN) started fifth on the grid and won the 15 car and 15 lap Mini Stock main event. He edged Brian Adams from Norwood (MN) by only .113 seconds at the finish line. Michael Wachs Jr from Shakopee (MN) leads a very tight point battle, he has a two point advantage over Brian Adams and a five point lead over Tyler Christensen.
Brody Wulf from Lakeville (MN) won the main event from the fifth starting position in the Bandoleros division, Wulf is the point leader by just two markers over Cole Klien from Rogers (MN).

Great family entertainment just 20 minutes South of the Twin Cities continues on Saturday night July 12th with racing in 7 divisions of cars at Elko Speedway including the special Scott Kingery memorial Thunder Car race. Gates open at 5pm, qualifying at 6pm and racing beginning at 7pm. A movie will be shown at Champions Drive-In Theater 15 minutes after the completion of the race program at Elko Speedway, the all digital Drive-In is now open 7 days per week and located in the parking lot of Elko Speedway.
