In addition it will provide volunteers a once in a lifetime experience. This is only the fourth USGA individual championship held in Southern California during the past ten years and the FIRST in Orange County.”

The USGA is very selective which golf course will host this national event and Big Canyon County Club is in impressive company; Torrey Pines Golf Course, Rancho Santa Fe Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club. Not since 2004 has a Southern California resident been able to partake in this lifetime experience. It will be fun being part of the 60th U.S. Senior Amateur.

Big Canyon County Club needs a variety of volunteers at the 2014 U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. The positions they need to fill are as follows: Registration, Club Greeters, Parking, Range Greeters, Scorecard, Fore Caddies, Marshalls, On-Course Scoring and Standard Bearers. Preferably, Big Canyon Country Club would like volunteers to work two shifts which last four or more hours. Each position is important to the success of the Championship and training will be provided before the onset of the event.

About The U.S. Senior Amateur:
The 60th U.S. Senior Amateur Championship will be held at Big Canyon Country Club from September 13th through September 18th. Approximately 150 of the best senior men amateur players representing various region of the United States will be competing.

The USGA Senior Amateur, for players 55 and older, is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs. The 156-player field will go through 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying, and a field of 64 contested six rounds of match play to determine a champion.

The championship has steadily grown in popularity and in 2013 over 2,400 entries were submitted throughout the Unites States and Sectional Qualifying was conducted across the country. To compete in the championship players had an index not exceeding 7.4 qualified at one of 53 sites across the US. A handful of players earned an exemption from qualifying as a result of their prior performance in the championship or their performance in other USGA events. Past champions earn a ten year exemption from qualifying. Kemp Richardson, a member of the El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel is a two-time winner of the championship and was exempt from 2002 until 2013 for winning in 2001 and 2003. An accomplishment that only a few have achieved. Another unique accomplishment which Kemp can brag about is that he and his father John, are the only father who have won the championship.
