The Petite Shop, an online petite clothing boutique for women 5’ 4” and under, announces the launch of its Collective – the first comprehensive showcase of independent designers who focus exclusively on petite clothing.
Elizabeth Bates, the “Five-Foot Founder” of The Petite Shop, explains: “One of my main intentions with the site has always been to provide a platform for the trailblazing petite designers who design specifically for our specialty size, because they’re going to intimately understand the fit issues that we know all too well. The Collective is that platform.”
When customers click on the Collective, they can either shop the entire collection or explore each individual designer to read more about her and shop the line's pieces. There are currently eight designers featured in the showcase – when Bates first had the idea for an online petite boutique, there were less than half that number. She has watched this market gathering momentum since launching The Petite Shop, and finally felt that there were enough designers, and enough demand from customers, to present more unique pieces from small batches.
“Petite women want the same variety of options that ‘regular’-sized women have, and we don’t want to pay more for it or to have to take everything to the tailor” explains Bates. “There is a lot of frustration among petite women, and the strengthening community of designers, retailers and bloggers are ready to get the fashion industry’s attention once and for all.” Given that over 47% of American women are petite at 5’ 4” or shorter, this market is one that is nearing its tipping point. The Petite Shop’s Collective just may be what gives it the final push.
