“This is a follow up to a previous lesson on this subject”, says Johnson, “some people are still a little confused about the whole thing”. Claude explains this by demonstrating an Am (A minor) pentatonic scale as follows; 5th fret of the 6th string with first finger to the 8th fret with 4th finger. 5th fret of the 5th string with first finger to the 7th fret with 3rd finger and repeat this sequence on the 4th and 3rd strings. 5th fret of the 2nd string with first finger to the 8th fret with 4th finger and repeat this sequence for the first string as well. To make this into A major pentatonic you simple move that scale pattern down 3 frets so that it starts on the 2nd fret and it becomes A Major pentatonic. So in other words, in the key of A the minor pentatonic scale starts on A and in the same key, the major pentatonic starts on F# (F sharp).
