Florida Hospital Tampa is Hosting a Digestive Health Seminar to Educate the Community on Prevention and Treatment of Common Health Concerns
(PRWEB) July 09, 2014 -- Florida Hospital Tampa is inviting the community to a seminar that will focus on “Insuring Your Digestive Health,” and learning more about the diagnosis and treatment of serious digestive health issues that in most cases become common occurrences. The seminar will also clarify options when it comes to making important insurance decisions to find the right specialist. The event is free to the public and will take place on Wednesday, July 9th at Florida Hospital Tampa, located on 3100 East Fletcher Avenue in Tampa from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Florida Hospital Tampa’s clinical experts Dr. Sharona Ross, an advanced gastrointestinal (GI) and hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) surgeon, and Dr. Arthi Sanjeevi, an advanced gastroenterologist, will discuss digestive disorders of both the upper and lower GI tract, their common symptoms and complications. The physicians will also take a closer look at the newest treatment options available for patients. An insurance specialist will discuss ways to clearly understand plan options to ensure patients are locating the right specialist. All three experts will take part in a question and answer panel.
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), almost 70 million Americans suffer from digestive disorders every year. If not properly treated, many of these disorders such as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or Inflammatory Bowel- Disease (IBD) can lead to serious conditions, including cancer. “As the incidence of GERD has increased in the US, the number of patients diagnosed each year with esophageal cancer has also increased. Patients should be aware that their symptoms need to be further evaluated by a gastroenterologist or surgeon, and patients should know that surgery is the only curative treatment for acid reflux,” said Dr. Sharona Ross.
“Given the prevalence of digestive disorders in the United States, and the long term risks it is essential that we provide consumers with information on this topic. That’s why we believe in offering community seminars to educate our community about the proper management and treatment of these disorders so that families become better informed and can make the right health care decisions,” said Dr. Arthi Sanjeevi.
