Washington State Set to Open First Legal Marijuana Shops In Spite of Uncertainty
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) July 09, 2014 -- According to NBC News, as Washington officials organize the roll out of legal medical marijuana in the Evergreen state, many marijuana businesses are being left behind due to slow processing in the emerging legal market. Many skeptics, such as Washington State Liquor Control Board project manager, Randy Simmons, are showing pessimism in the current system’s long delays, despite the 80 licensed growers and 20 retail shops expected to receive licensing this week.
Simmons communicated to NBC reporters that “some people just don’t have an idea what they’re doing-no clue at all,” attributing the bedlam and ultra-slow dispensation, to the thousands of license applicants who, reports claim, are dazed and confused by the new bureaucracy. This seems to be the consensus and current perception of the legalized process in Washington, as opening day approaches. Stigmatization of marijuana aside, Washington was set to follow the economic model of Colorado’s so far successful marijuana market when constructing the legal process of operating the distribution of pot in the state; however, due to the current system’s hiccups, researchers are foreshadowing a dreary reality.
Mark Kleiman, a UCLA professor and head of BOTEC, a marijuana consulting firm, told NBC News that “Washington has yet to create a scenario in which recreational marijuana will thrive.” Furthermore, the professor warns that delays in the licensing process will result in marijuana shortages and as Kleiman told reporters, a “death struggle between medical marijuana and recreational.” These uncertain sentiments come at a time when patients, businesses, and officials alike, simply want to move on with a process that is seemingly overdue.
A representative for A&A Packaging commented on the current situation in Colorado by saying that “the situation, however unfortunate, is indicative of the current process of marijuana reform in the states, and will only be remedied as more states begin to legalize and learn from the past errors of others.” A&A Packaging supports marijuana reform and compliance in all legalized states regarding retail marijuana’s best practices and government standards for the marijuana packaging industry.
