Living Well Assisted Living Joins 2014 Caregiver Events
Tiburon, CA (PRWEB) July 09, 2014 -- Living Well Assisted Living at Home is proud to announce that they will be joining the 2014 Caregiver Events organized by the Stanford PD Caregiver Support Program. Dr. Doris Bersing, president and CEO of Living Well Assisted Living, will present on suggestions for how to improve family dynamics around Parkinson’s individuals through positive communication at the symposium on July 12.
According to the National Parkinson's Foundation, 50,000-60,000 new cases of Parkinson's disease (PD) are diagnosed each year in the United States, adding to the one million people who currently have Parkinson's disease. In fact, it is estimated that four to six million people around the world suffer from the condition. There is hope, however, as scientists work towards a cure and make progress in identifying the best treatment options for patients. Parkinson's disease usually develops after age 60, but 15 percent of cases are diagnosed in people under the age of 40.
The Parkinson's Disease Foundation states, "...While your journey with Parkinson's is different from anyone else's, from age of onset, to the symptoms you will experience, to your reactions to medications, there are common strategies you can take to live well with PD."
From co-creating, along with Kaiser Permanente, a PD support group in San Francisco for patients and caregivers, to raising awareness of the challenges of PD through public speaking, Living Well Assisted Living at Home is committed to supporting people suffering from Parkinson’s disease. To this effect, they offer their specialized trained staff to help them stay at home safely and stay engaged.
Living Well is interested in helping individuals with PD to continue rewarding lives.
Dr. Bersing says, “Remember that these diseases are a label, but they are not your loved ones. They experience that illness but they are not the illness. It is very important to focus on the uniqueness and individuality of each person and use the right interventions to help them express themselves and lead a fulfilling inner life. Let Living Well help you and your loved one to understand and live through the process."
The Parkinson’s Disease and Parkinsonism Caregiver Symposium will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. July 12. It will be held at the Crowne Plaza Foster City located at 1221 Chess Drive, Foster City, CA 94404. Dr. Bersing’s presentation will be from 11 a.m. to noon.
