(PRWEB) July 09, 2014 -- Bulgarian born actress, Marieta Milev, is making her directorial debut with the film, “Monica,” which is slated to start production in September. Milev, who plays the lead character Monica, will be directing and co-writing the film with co-star, Alessandro Nori.
The Bulgarian beauty is inspired by the work of Italian director, Giuseppe Tornatore, and believes that her co-star, Alessandro Nori, can follow in the footsteps of this Italian movie-making genius.
“I am very happy to have such an amazing male lead like famous Italian actor, Alessandro Nori,” says Milev. “He is such an inspiration for the character he is playing in the film called Fabio.”
Nori, born and raised in Milan, Italy, has starred in such films as, “Free Refill” and “Retention,” and also starred in the television series, “Bona Fide.”
Milev’s film, “Monica,” is set in Sicily, Italy during the 1950’s, and follows the story of a beautiful and courageous Italian woman (named Monica) who is scorned by a conservative society that frowns upon her open-mindedness and frequent interaction with males. It is a behavior that is perceived as provocative and inappropriate.
“I think that bold beauty in conservative society is very rare nowadays,” says Milev. “People are so open minded today that it’s really hard to be shocked or surprised by anything or anyone.” As you can imagine, it was very taboo for an Italian woman in the 1950’s to live free, speak her mind, and flaunt her beauty. After all, the times and attitudes were much different back then, and being or acting “too beautiful” often came at a price if you were female.
“I want to show the beauty of a different culture in a different time,” says Milev. “Yet, at the same time, I want to show the same extreme emotions of love, disappointment, forgiveness and mental escape, that we feel today.”
Milev, who also stars in the upcoming human trafficking drama “Happy Fourth,” is very excited about writing, directing, and starring in a film for the first time.
“I am wearing many hats for this project (Monica) that I created,” says Milev. “But I wouldn’t have it any other way because Monica is like my baby and I can’t wait to see her grow.”
A complete list of the actors starring in the film, “Monica,” will be released in the near future.
