Athenahealth CEO Jonathan Bush to Keynote 5th Annual Health IT Leadership Summit
Atlanta, Georgia. (PRWEB) July 09, 2014 -- Health IT Leadership Summit organizers are pleased to announce Jonathan Bush, CEO and co-founder of athenahealth, as the keynote speaker of the fifth annual event, to be held November 20 at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta. Organizers expect the event will once again bring together a record number of health IT leaders and innovators from the region and beyond.
Bush, an avid proponent of disruptive innovation, recently made The New York Times Best Seller list with his debut book, Where Does It Hurt? An Entrepreneur’s Guide to Fixing Health Care. In his book, Bush calls for a revolution in healthcare that will give customers more choices, freedom, and power at far lower prices.
“Healthcare delivery in the U.S. is inefficient, complex, and too often, heartless,” said Bush, whose keynote presentation will focus on similar topics. “No industry is riper for entrepreneurship and disruptive innovation, which have the potential to offer patients new choices and efficiencies. By disrupting the ‘old guard,’ we can catalyze a revolution that restores humanity to the practice of healthcare.”
athenahealth is a leading provider of cloud-based services for electronic health records, practice management, and care coordination. Headquartered in Watertown, Mass., it has numerous offices across the U.S. Last year, it announced an expansion of the company’s offices in metro Atlanta, investing $10.8 million and creating 500 new jobs over five years.
“The health IT industry in Georgia is on the upswing, with the top eight companies reporting close to $5 billion in annual revenue,” said David Hartnett, Interim Senior Vice President, Economic Development, Metro Atlanta Chamber.“Bush is an innovator whose vision and leadership at athenahealth have contributed significantly to the evolution of the industry and to the metro Atlanta region’s status as the nation’s health IT capital.”
In addition to Bush’s keynote, the Health IT Leadership Summit will feature a full day of informational sessions, exhibits, and networking opportunities, as well several awards presentations. This year’s event theme, “Transformation of Healthcare Delivery,” will comprise a range of healthcare delivery topics, including disruptive technologies, population health management, venture capital and investment opportunities, and extending care through technology.
