Lufkin High School Installs Shaw Sports Turf Field
Lufkin, Texas (PRWEB) July 10, 2014 -- The Lufkin High School Panthers will be working for victories on a newly installed Shaw Sports Turf field this season.
The new playing surface was installed after their old synthetic turf field became virtually unplayable.
“The condition of the field had gotten progressively worse," said Todd Quick, Athletic Director. “The field was compacted and hard. Gmax (head impact measurement) was very high. Our players were getting turf burns and even cuts from the pea gravel infill system. The main issue was safety.”
When the school made the decision to install a new field, they turned to Shaw Sports Turf and the premium PowerBlade Bolt system.
Bolt is a stronger, more resilient monofilament fiber, featuring a lightning bolt shape which creates a stronger vertical axis that causes fibers to stand upright for less breakdown and increased durability. Bolt is specifically built for performance and to reflect light for a lower luster and more natural-looking field. Lufkin’s field marks the first installation of the Bolt system in the state of Texas.
Shaw Sports Turf has installed practice and stadium fields on more than 1,500 playing surfaces for all types of sports and recreational activities, including many collegiate programs such as Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, LSU, and the University of Arkansas. Additionally, Shaw Sports Turf installed the practice and game fields for the Baltimore Ravens.
“This field looks incredible,” said Quick. “Our old field didn’t have color. Our new Shaw Sports Turf field will have purple end zones and a purple border surrounding the field. It also has two-tone, alternating panels This is important to dressing up our stadium and keeping our facilities up to date. It’s also a huge lift for our athletic programs.”
In deciding to change to a Shaw Sports Turf system, Quick says the school looked at several options. He said one of the biggest influences were the three Shaw Sports Turf fields in Tyler, Texas at Tyler Rose Stadium, John Tyler High School, and Robert E. Lee High School.
“Tyler bought fields from Shaw Sports Turf in separate years,” said Quick. “It says a lot about Shaw that they bought one field from the company and were so satisfied that they bought two more. That was a big factor for us.”
Quick was also happy with the installation process, which just wrapped up.
“The people from Shaw Sports Turf were very responsive to our needs, and the people from Symmetry Turf did a great job with the installation,” said Quick. “Vincente Flores, the director of construction from Symmetry, is big-time. He’s very picky and doesn’t let anything go by. He even took his shirt off and went to work when the need arose. That tells us that he’s working to make it right for Lufkin High School.”
“We are excited about the new field at Lufkin High School,” said Matt Stanley Territory Manager with Shaw Sports Turf. “This field is amazing and we are excited about the success that Panther teams will achieve on a world-class playing surface.”
Lufkin will utilize the new field primarily for football and soccer. The Panthers will play their first football game against Longview on August 29.
