Renowned Buddhist Meditation Instructor Khandro Rinpoche Teaching at Heartwood Center in Evanston
Evanston, IL (PRWEB) July 16, 2014 -- For the first time in seven years, one of the most renowned Tibetan Buddhist teachers currently teaching in the West, Her Eminence Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche, brings her teachings to the Chicago area. Heartwood Center for Body Mind Spirit, a holistic health services center in Evanston, hosts the weekend program on August 16–17 in their Skylight Room at 1818 Dempster Street.
At one point or another, everyone encounters suffering and hardship throughout their lives, and everyone longs for happiness and freedom from this suffering. By studying the universally applicable teachings in the philosophy of Buddhism and learning to practice meditation, it is possible to find ways to cultivate feelings of stability and calmness. However, often people are either intimidated or skeptical by the foundations of mindfulness and meditation. Khandro Rinpoche is bridging the gap through this program, making mindfulness and meditation accessible and applicable to all faiths and philosophies.
The subject of the program is “The Four Immeasurables”. The Buddha taught his students how to cultivate four sublime states of mind—friendliness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity. From his time until now, practitioners of meditation have developed these states of mind through various contemplative exercises. Khandro Rinpoche will provide lucid instructions in this material.
“We are overjoyed and honored to host Her Eminence Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche in Chicago this August, for the first time in seven years, blessing our beautiful Heartwood space with her visit,” says Nancy Floy, Heartwood founder and meditation teacher. “Khandro Rinpoche is such an insightful teacher. Participants will not only benefit from her wisdom, but they will no doubt enjoy her warmth and sense of humor.”
One of the few prominent women teachers in Tibetan Buddhism, Khandro Rinpoche is a holder of the Kagyü and Nyingma lineages. She began receiving teachings and transmissions from a very young age from some of the most revered Tibetan masters. Fluent in English, she has been teaching internationally for more than two decades and is author of the book “This Precious Life: Tibetan Buddhist Teachings on the Path to Enlightenment.” To this day, she is celebrated as one of the most inspirational figures of Tibetan Buddhism.
