Beginning in 2003 until March 2014, Dr. Okinaka held several executive positions with both technical and business development responsibilities at KDDI, one of the three major service provider groups in Japan. During that period, he led a project for the globally first large-scale implementation of over-the-air firmware update of mobile devices, FOTA, in cooperation with a Silicon Valley-based startup. He was also responsible for the corporate-wide standards strategy and drove global standard initiatives, e.g., as a member of the Board of Directors of CDMA Development Group (CDG) and WiMAX Forum, and as the Chair of 3GPP2.
