GM Airbag Failure Lawsuit Page Launched To Provide Vital Legal Information to Alleged Victims of Faulty Airbags in GM Vehicles by The Oliver Law Group P.C.
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) July 12, 2014 -- The Oliver Law Group P.C. announces that they have launched a new GM airbag failure lawsuit web page to provide vital legal information to individuals who were allegedly injured in motor vehicle crashes involving GM cars with faulty airbags, as well as the families of individuals who were allegedly killed due to defective GM airbags. The Firm’s web page was created in response to a recent report from The New York Times which revealed that more than 300 fatalities may be tied to motor vehicle accidents where GM airbags failed to deploy.

The New York Times report linked many of the fatal crashes to GM vehicles outfitted with a faulty ignition switch that can unexpectedly and suddenly move from the “On” or “Run” position to the “Off” or “Acc” position. Among other things, this occurrence can compromise the safety airbag system, resulting in a failure to deploy. Earlier this year, GM recalled 2.6 million cars due to the defective ignition switch, including:
2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
2005-2007 Pontiac G5
2003-2007 Saturn Ion
2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR
2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice
2007-2010 Saturn Sky

According to The Washington Post, a congressional probe later determined that GM had made a modification to the ignition switch in 2006 that resolved the issue, but did not publicly disclose the problem or announce a recall at that time.

The GM Victims Compensation Fund was recently established by the automaker to compensate the families of those killed, as well as individuals who were severely injured, in automobile crashes associated with the defective ignition switch. According to a report from the Associated Press, the Fund will open to claims on August 1, 2014. Those who wish to participate must file no later than December 31, 2014.

The Oliver Law Group is also investigating deaths and injuries that may be related to GM’s June 2014 recall of more than 30,000 2013-2014 Chevy Cruze Sedans. The Chevy Cruze recall was issued due to a defect in the inflator for the driver’s side airbag that could cause the bag to rupture, resulting in a release of metal pieces that have the potential to seriously injure occupants of the vehicle. The faulty inflator could also result in a failure of the airbag to deploy, increasing the risk of an injury in a crash.

According to Reuters, the airbags at the center of the Chevy Cruze recall were manufactured by Takata Corp. Other problems with Takata air bags have led to the recall of about 10.5 million vehicles worldwide, many of them made by Honda Motor Co. and Toyota Motor Corp.
