Kingsport, TN (PRWEB) July 16, 2014

Custom Compounding Centers of America and Performance Medicine in Kingsport, TN held Free Facial Health Screenings for Skin Cancer Awareness Month on May 28, 2014.

“Based on the heavy turnout, more Americans are becoming aware and concerned about the effects of the sun as they should. According to the American Cancer Society, http://www.cancer.org, one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of their lifetime, that’s why I plead with my patients to take precautions when they are out in the sun. These are real problems that we need to deal with starting today. The world of Federal and State Healthcare is dramatically changing, patients do not have to plead guilty of not knowing their options if they are properly counseled," said Dr. Robert (Bob) Harshbarger, COO, Custom Compounding Centers of America. Custom Compounding Centers of America hopes to continue to promote early detection and prevention of skin cancer. By offering free facial health screenings in our pharmacy, we help educate how important it is to protect your skin.

Those who participated in the free screenings at Custom Compounding Centers of America were given a facial skin analysis, a simple test that uses Type A ultraviolet (UV) light to show the sun damage that is invisible to the naked human eye. The condition of the skin below the surface is illuminated in various fluorescent hues, making sun-damaged areas, blocked pores, oily and dry spots visible. Participants also received a Summer Care Bag that contained information and products, including UV protection sunscreen, sunglasses, and lip balm. Also included were lotions, vitamins, assorted skin care products, and other goodies.

Most sun exposure in a person’s lifetime occurs between the ages 19 and 40. Custmo Compounding Centers of America has a wide variety of valued products to help protect everyone’s skin, including products from Coppertone and the Neutrogena Spectrum line which provides comprehensive, full-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Additionally, Custom Compounding Centers of America’s trusted pharmacists are always available to help patients find the best skincare products for particular needs, as well as a variety of health and wellness solutions.

“Sun damage is something we can have control over in our life, like the onset prevention of type 2 diabetes, if we take some preventative measures. Patients do not have to be sentenced to a shortened life expectancy for something they have control over. It does not have to be an unexpected kidney punch; patients can see these diseases coming and take precautions throughout their lives,” stated Dr. Robert Harshbarger, Pharmacist.
