Savory Spice Shop Renames Kaffir Lime Leaves - Makrut Lime Leaves
Denver, CO (PRWEB) July 12, 2014 -- As Savory Spice Shop consistently strives to educate its customers about herbs and spices, in the interactive environments of their shops sometimes it is their customers that educate them. People from different backgrounds, cultures and even different generations share their personal experiences with food and cooking every day to their spice merchants across the country.
“It is in the spirit of this cross-cultural education that we take the following issue very seriously. It has come to our attention that in certain areas of the world, the word 'Kaffir' is a racial slur,” said Mike Johnston, founder of Savory Spice Shop. “For almost ten years we have sold premium Kaffir Lime Leaves under this name, their actual industry name which is widely used in grocery stores and elsewhere. However, armed with this new knowledge, it is time for a change.” Savory Spice Shop is choosing to rename this product Makrut Lime Leaves (mah-krut), which comes from the Thai word that describes these same bumpy-skinned limes, effective immediately.
Starting this July 11th, Savory Spice Shop will also be introducing a delicious new product that is made with the makrut lime leaves - the new Makrut Lime Sea Salt. This refreshing citrus-inspired salt is handcrafted by blending together sea salt, lime and makrut lime leaves and can only be found at Savory Spice Shop. This new blend is great for rimming the glass of your favorite cocktails and is a versatile seasoning salt for a variety of foods including seafood, beef, poultry, pork or even vegetables. Visit your local Savory Spice Shop for additional great recipes and cooking ideas featuring all of their signature spices.
